Davy Wright | Outdoors | Adventurous |Gear Geek | Ally

I’ve always loved the outdoors, over the years I have been introduced to different ways of travelling and being in the wilderness; hiking, climbing, skiing, biking, camping. At best I am mediocre at most of them, but the main thing is being outdoors. Being base in Scotland, access to beautiful places can be simple. I recognised fairly early that it became a reset, so whenever I can I find some green space (sometimes blue) to press the button.

Along with the love of the outdoors, came geekery of gear. It made me look at how kit works and the developing technologies. This led to me starting my own blog gear reviewing, fortunately, I was invited to become a gear tester at MyOutdoors. This is where my opportunities opened up and I was thrust (willingly) into the outdoor industry. I became Deputy Editor, involved with brands and PRs, managing the review kit and attending outdoor events. Making new friends along the way.

As I continue in the industry, I’ll still be curious to see how the gear and innovations benefit the end user and support environmental advancement. I will also be an ally, I will make use of the connections I have made over the years to collaborate and support others in the industry.

Paths in the Outdoors
Everyone loves a podcast, so I started one. An in-person, on camera conversation with people in the outdoors. Discussing their journey in the outdoors and where they might want that path to go. I find peoples stories really interesting and there have been really good chats. I am going to invest some more time in them to ensure the video versions have subtitles, making them more accessible.

They can be watched on YouTube and Spotify, and listened on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts.

So, what’s the plan…
I will still be geeking out on gear and plan to continue reviewing for multiple platforms.

I will most definitely still be attending outdoor gatherings, catching up with friends and hopefully making new ones.

More interesting chats on Paths in the Outdoors...

Support creatives, photographers and filmmakers in making their projects happen. If we want the industry to develop and grow, there must be investment in how that message is communicated.

There are lots of talented people out there and they need a conduit to connect them with platforms and brands to make this happen.
